Disney‘s Aladdin & Dumbo Live Action

Disney‘s Aladdin & Dumbo Live Action

Given the fact that writing truly is one of my biggest passions, and this personal blog is about what inspires me, why should I not share this here? Tom Hiddleston, Loki, writing, films, what me concerns, they all have one thing in common: That is, they‘re all my passions! So why should I not combine those passions together, every once in a while? That‘s what I do for the local cinema. Often after visiting a film, mostly Marvel or Disney, but I‘m also in for the 'monster' kind of movies like Jurassic World/Park, Kong: Skull Island (duh!) and Godzilla (guess where I‘m going to tomorrow..), I‘ve gotten enough inspiration to write a blog/review about it. Then I‘ll send it to them which they then share on their website. Today I‘ve translated my writings about Aladdin & Dumbo and decided to share them here as well. (I know for Dumbo that‘s very late!)

Aladdin

Aladdin: The story of the street thief set in Disney's Agrabah, the City of Mysteries. You don't have to go to Paris or to Florida to experience the magical Disneyland. This year you will experience it in your own cinema! From a flying elephant to a flying carpet with The Lion King as cherry on top! If you are a Disney fan in heart and soul, you certainly should not skip Aladdin! Let yourself be guided by Aladdin's magic carpet and float with Aladdin, Jasmine & the naughty monkey Abu through the desert-like environments. When you talk about Aladdin, you probably immediately think of that magic lamp with the Genie who gives its finder 3 wishes. Dreaming is something we do every day. Everyone has them: the one big dreams, the other more modest dreams. Imagine: You can make 3 wishes. Whatever you want, anything is possible! What would you wish for? Or would you perhaps waste 2 of the 3 wishes right away? Because.. ‘Be careful what you wish for!’

Aladdin truly is a sensation for your eyes with among others the terrifying but impressive Cave of Wonders (with the voice of Frank Welker, who also provides the voice of this cat-shaped cave in the original version.) This Live Action version also comes with a number of brand new songs including 'Speechless' sung by Jasmine, the princess of Agrabah. It may seem as if she has everything her heart desires such as dresses of the finest silk fabrics, beautiful jewellery & a tiger as a pet! Anyway, she doesn't have to be afraid of thieves, sure they will stay outside (except for one of course!). However she doesn't have the one thing that‘ll make her the happiest: freedom. She can't even show herself outside, let alone be heard! That of course the sly Jafar will make clear to her father! "Speechless" together with the famous "A Whole New World" perhaps is one of the strongest songs in the film. It certainly left a big impression on me! With her golden voice, Naomi Scott sets a strong character and proves that Jasmine is much more than just a princess!

When Disney just dropped the trailer, I came across of all sorts of statements about the Genie, which looks like a strange blue CGI version from his performer Will Smith. For example, some people would have liked to see Jim Carrey as the Genie. (That might just work in an animation version, but definitely not in this Live Action version.) Other people had doubts about whether Smith was the right actor to take on this role, and it appears that he himself had those doubts first too. Because let's be honest: Robin Williams (died in 2014) is hard to peer with and also that, you shouldn't want either. This is the Live Action version and of course that‘s a challenge. But I don‘t think Will Smith is one who throws in the towel easily. With being himself and having a lot of enthusiasm he managed to create his own version of the Genie. Will Smith calls it a bit of "The Prince of Bel-Air", a pinch of "Men in Black" and a touch of "Bad Boys" (interview with Veronica Magazine). This Genie, blue or not, comes with a lot of humor in his mission to turn the bit inexperienced Aladdin (Mena Massoud) into a real prince!

As it comes to Disney movies I‘m always a little curious for the villain. In Aladdin that‘s of course Jafar: The villain with the scary narrow head, his serpent staff and his always faithful parrot Iago on his shoulder. In this Live Action version, Jafar is portrayed by the Dutch Marwan Kenzari, who was featured in "The Mummy" in 2017. I am always in for some facts and I find it interesting that Oded Fehr, actor from the earlier Universal 'The Mummy' films, portrayed Jafar in the well-known fairy tale series "Once Upon a Time". Although honest, the animated Jafar gave me some more shivers, Kenzari turns out to be a very convincing Jafar and he gives the villain some extra handsome-ness! I believe both Jafar and Iago, the writers could have given some more depth. I wonder what I shall think of Scar‘s Live Action version..

Disney has once again transformed one of its classics into a spectacular magical Live Action adventure! Did you know that in a number of countries it‘s a tradition in the cinema to clap after the end of a movie? Well, for me the temptation rather was big! Whether you like fairy tales, want to relive your childhood memories or just want to dream away in this fantasy world, Aladdin is a film for all age!

Note: Funko should have included Rajah (the tiger) in their Aladdin Live Action line too!

Dumbo

Dumbo, the cute little baby elephant with the big ears. Who doesn‘t know him?

It‘s no secret that Disney's Live Action films are immensely popular at this very moment. After "The Jungle Book" and, among others, "Beauty And The Beast", it‘s now Dumbo‘s turn to shine on the big screen, or perhaps better said: fly. We can't really call this version of Dumbo a remake because with a more extensive storyline and new characters such as Holt (Colin Farrell) and his children, Dumbo gets a more ‘modern’ look. To refresh your memory: The original Dumbo had talking (and singing pink) elephants, a stork that ‘delivers’ the infants and Timmy the mouse that was jumping for making Dumbo a star. I can imagine all that would have looked truly unbelievable in a Live Action film that takes place in a circus environment with people. After all, Dumbo is not a film that takes place in the wild nature such as "The Jungle Book" or "The Lion King", although there are indeed references to the original. The direction of Dumbo was in the hands of Tim Burton and from him we are mostly used to imaginative, dark edged films. Think of "The Nightmare Before Christmas" or one of his many films with Johnny Depp such as "Sleepy Hollow" or "Edward Scissorhands". In addition, Burton chose to focus more on the question of how humans will react when seeing a flying elephant. I‘m sure, in an animated version of this film, the owner of the theme park called Dreamland (Michael Keaton) should have dollar signs in his eyes! We also see Danny DeVito (a.o known for Matilda) playing a convincing role as a circus boss. By the way, a Tim Burton film with the actors Michael Keaton & Danny DeVito is nothing new. In Burton's film "Batman Returns" the duo portrayed Batman & the Penguin. The latter might have fitted in Nightmare Island, which is an attraction of Dreamland in the film.

Perhaps 2019 can be called the year of Disney. I'm already looking forward to Disney +: the streaming device platform that Disney is likely to launch by the end of this year (Of course, in my case, that has to do with the Loki series. My local cinema had cut this sentence when they published my Dumbo review on their site). But before the end of the summer we have two more Disney Live Action films to visit. We saw Aladdin's trailer prior to the Dumbo movie, which will be released in May. And although I never ranked Aladdin among my favorite Disney movies, I secretly thought the trailer looked promising. Then finally in July: The Lion King! (Here I had written that I expected Disney to come with a trailer that gives us a preview of Scar too, literally two days later Disney actually dropped the trailer..)

As far as my opinion goes, Dumbo has not lost his charms even when he‘s is painted as a piteous clown. I‘m sure most people will sympathize with the baby elephant that is first laughed at because of its large ears, before his flying talent gets them all amazed, while he himself only just wants to fly to his mommy! With his cute, innocent look, Dumbo shall melt many hearts! And in the case of the 3D version, watch out that Dumbo doesn't fly out of the cinema ;).

I‘m truly excited for The Lion King though.. I haven‘t written a review about Endgame, but I‘m planning to dedicate a blog post about it soon!

Zen blog: Inspiring Quotes and Nature 2

Zen blog: Inspiring Quotes 2

A month ago, a day before I could finally watch Endgame, I shared the following blogpost: Zen blog: Inspiring Quotes. In the mean time many more inspiring quotes have crossed my path, that I have decided to spend another blogpost to this wonderful subject. Perhaps I will do it monthly.

Of course now I have seen Endgame and I would like to do a blog about that one as well, but I‘m afraid it‘s perhaps still too soon to share thoughts about it fully?

I‘ll find these quotes in magazines, on spiritual websites and sometimes just on tea-labels: Like the 'patience pays' one above! I got that after the walk I took (the pictures are from that walk). Earlier that day I had a question about something that I desire, and I found the answer in the daily card I took that day: '"t‘s not a 'no', it‘s a 'not yet'. Sometimes the universe needs some more time to get the pieces together." And later the "Patience Pays" as a confirmation. Wow, beautiful how the universe works! Sometimes you indeed need to have some more patience. Being impatiently doesn't bring you your desires quicker, it only makes you feel annoyed and you‘ll get on other people‘s nerves. I‘m not saying 'switching the button' is easy. Trust me, I know. Impatient is written all over me! However keep believing that anything is possible!

At the end of the blogpost you‘ll find a source list for the websites and the magazines!

Love
Inspiring
Balance

I truly cherish inspiring quotes that have 'dreams' as main theme! Remarkably how they keep appearing within my sight!

Print it or write it down in your diary. This is a keeper:

On the day that I received the following card, I took the advice a bit too serious. Out of my closet I took a light colored red jeans that I hadn't wore in years + a very colorful t-shirt with the image of the ocean and some fish on it. How did that make me feel? When I looked in the mirror I felt like I stared to a 7 year younger version of myself. The clothes weren‘t me any longer. So I washed them and donated them. Perhaps it was a sign that I should clear out my closet!

For the image, this is a photo of the t-shirt. Still a nice image though. I‘ll just keep the photo as a memory.

I still have old photo‘s of me wearing the shirt,
but it‘s on a beach. Not sharing them.

Some nature shots:

For your information, this was 'white t-shirt day'. Not just a hot day for London, here in the Netherlands it was like 22 degrees as well.
The following photo is a photo of the exact same place (only a close-up) from the photo above taken on september 2018 (last year‘s dry period). Nature is still recovering, hopefully this summer won‘t be a dry one again!

Here‘s another comparison:

More quotes:

From Wendy Magazine
But another quote said: "Just open the door, it‘s a door, that‘s how they work!"

Don‘t be afraid to be unique!

Never let fear lead your life!

The other day I found a pyjama with a quote about dreams that could have been made for me. And it‘s from Dumbo, so what more could I want?

From: Large.nl

"Follow your dreams, they know the way!"  Perfect quote to sleep in!

And while shopping, I also added a little extra to my shopping cart: Loki & Thor (winter) socks!
Guys, you are supposed to wear them on the feet..

Of course the brothers may show them themselves! And with that this blog post also has a little touch of Loki ;).

One last one for the road:

Remember: "You are enough, you are a 1000 times enough!"

I hope, via this blogpost, I once again, send you a little bit of inspiration. Bless you and take care!

Love,

Nicole

Tom Hiddleston: #ShareYourSchoolPhoto

Share your School Photo

3 years ago, on the 16th of May, 2016, Tom Hiddleston posted a video in where he shared a school photo of himself.

His video:
'As promised, here’s my favourite school photo! Share yours and help us celebrate the huge importance of school and education for children living through crises all over the world. #EmergencyLessons #UNICEF.'

This is the photo he shared.

I think Tom sets an amazing example and he has lots of care for the world. He truly is a lovely person with a pure heart. A pure soul or as I have said before: An Angel on Earth!

I‘m not making this a long post because this is a post in which the pictures should be doing the talking. So to end this post, I would like now to share my photo as well:

My two first school photo‘s.

X-Men/Avengers Crossover (Funko) Fun

X-Men/Avengers Crossover (Funko) Fun

Chapter 6 & 7 from my X-Men/Avengers/GotG Crossover I‘m writing for the fun. These are two very short chapters.

6.  Tony Stark vs. Rocket

If I still had a Barbie car (or any they fit in), I would have seated them in it for this photo..

ELSEWHERE
'I had expected something a little more spectacular than this simple car', Rocket mentioned. He and Groot were sitting in the back, where the windows were dark. 'I can't disagree with the raccoon on that', Bucky softly said to Tony who sat next to him, driving the car. 'What's the plan anyway as soon as we arrive at that house? Play Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs? By all means, the girl already has the protection of a bunch of Gods. Where do they need us for?', Rocket continued his complains. 'Why couldn't that blue chick and the electro-guy just tell us where to find this Ass-olypso God?'
'Will you shut it, Coati? Once we're reunited with Thor we'll split up to deal with this threat, the sooner I'm home the better!' The last thing Tony ever expected to be involved in was an argue with a talking animal. 'And if it's up to me, I'll team you up with Loki because I don't want you in my team! Two-for-one..', Tony referred to his lack of excitement in seeing Loki again. He had been relieved when Thor informed them about his brother's death, but now he assumed when involved a God, death meant a temporary thing. 'Too short', he spoke within himself. 'Loki? Is that the reindeer? Are you trying to mock me, glassed guy?', Rocket called out. This was going to be one hell of a long ride. Bucky took a deep breath. 'Rocket right? Being a little nicer wouldn't kill you', he said. 'Fine! But I get to ride Loki the reindeer!'

7.  Loki vs. Logan

More Funko Fun: Sometimes I post them on my @Loki_FunkoFun IG

'You came across of him!' Logan overheard Loki telling Thor about the creature that tried to lure him by promising him lots of 'sweets', so to be called. 'You mean the God- is a blue dumb-ass?' Thor lifted his head, confused. 'Let's get that bastard! What are the odds of him showing up again?' Now Thor lifted his hand, greedily attracting his hammer. 'Unlikely, to be honest. He probably saw your brother as a desperate soul, an easy target', Logan said, slowing down Thor's enthusiasm immediately. With one God tamed, as for the other it had resulted in some upcoming rage. 'You filthy animal! How dare you calling me desperate!', Loki called out. It was a close call for Loki and Logan to jump into a heavy fight, but Thor got to them first. Or better said: Mjolnir. Thor had the hammer thrown in between them. 'Stop, both of you! Perhaps Logan is right, Loki you need to come with me. Lure him, by calling out you've changed your mind and you do want his help!', Thor said. 'Worst idea! If he sees me he'll know it's a trap!', Loki started. 'If you two want to go, fine. I'll stay here. Besides someone needs to guard Charlene. We can't leave her alone!'
Logan, still not steamed off from Loki's insults, again lashed out. 'Charles is my friend! What makes you think I'll leave her alone with a malign misfit God?', he yelled. But before Loki had the time to release his inner anger, Charlene had walked into the scene. 'You boys need to stop arguing! I was able to hear you at the other side of the house! I think Loki staying here is indeed the best idea for the moment. You two need to be separated!', she said while she gave both Loki and Logan a strict look. And when sequentially Thor and Logan immediately focused on each other, Charlene winked at Loki.

Let‘s talk about.. Long haired men!

Long haired men..

Loki & Thor

Obviously I need to open this post with a picture of my favorite brothers: Loki & Thor. How I can say I‘m a huge Avengers fan nowadays, is the result of my decision of watching 'Thor' when I saw it in the TV-Guide years ago. My reason why I wanted to watch it back then? That takes me back to the title of this blog. "Gods, fantasy, men with long hair", I thought when I read the description of Thor and here I am!

Actually I've always had a thing for men with long hair. I‘m pretty sure I will end up marrying one. I‘ll dare to bet Loki‘s life on that one!

Who wouldn't love to see Bucky & Loki in a scene together?

Charmed

The idea of a post with this theme was created the other day, while watching an episode of the first season of Charmed in which the warlock was a long haired (obviously) man. Immediately I thought: "Oh right, that guy. I remember him!"

Matthew Tate portrayed by Billy Wirth.
Even though he‘s no Loki, there was a lot of mischief in that guy. And during the shirt-off scene perhaps you could have called him a mix between Thor and Loki. Matthew who came from the 17th century, got awakened in the late 90s. If he hadn't stolen (and there‘s Loki again) the ability of blinking from place to place from a witch, I totally could have seen him walk into a pet-store, acting like Thor saying: 'I need a horse!' And in that same blink of an eye, he made woman fall for him, decade after decade. Yes, I totally would have fallen for a dark guy like that..

Bad Wyatt 'Matthew' Halliwell portayed by Wes Ramsey.

Same show, different name (except for the middle name..) different guy. Since Charmed took over halve my childhood, let‘s analyze the show a little bit more for long haired men. I think there won‘t be many good guys in this list. This was the bad version of Wyatt from the future. I don‘t quite remember how they changed him to be a good guy later, but when he was, suddenly his hair was gone too. Why is it that in tv shows, men with long hair rarely have good intentions?

Film 'The Mummy' (1 or 2) Actor: Oded Fehr

I said rarely, because as I remember this man wasn't so bad. Why is he listed below 'Charmed'? Well, you might also remember Oded as Zankou, the demon he portrayed in the seventh season. Shame they didn't gave him some more hair, because it really looked good on him.

Cole Turner (Julian McMahon).
But he just wore a wig as a disguise this particular episode

Johnny Depp

He gave us the craziest characters. He did it all! I think he‘s truly an amazing actor! Of course, my favorite roles of him are the ones in which he has long locks!

Johnny Depp in 'Pirates of the Caribbean', 'Chocolate',
'From Hell' and 'Blow'.
Captain Jack Sparrow! A legend!  I remember I was in the last class of primary school when we watched 'Pirates of the Caribbean' and one of the guys said: 'Don‘t tell me you got the hots for him? Don‘t you know how old he is??' Yes, of course I knew, nothing wrong with a little fantasizing right?

Will Turner (Orlando Bloom). Not bad either.
Definitely not bad.

Mel Gibson

Mel Gibson in 'Lethal Weapon' and in 'Braveheart'.

Actually me being fascinated by men with long hair had started even earlier. Braveheart: What year was that movie from? 1995. When you think the Dutch television had it aired at first? 1997 or 1998? Good lord, I was 7 back then! Perhaps it was a few years later than.. But well, Mel Gibson, you started this! ;)

A few months ago, the classic 'Lethal Weapon' films (which I have seen a thousand times!) were on again and once again it hit me: I‘m born 20/25 years too late!

Aquaman

Jason Momoa as Aquaman!

However, the cinema‘s are not disappointing me yet! Forgive me for mentioning DC in a blog about a Marvel character (I also like DC), but watching this long haired watergod‘s abs in 3D is no punishment at all!

Lord of the Rings

Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) & Boromir (Sean Bean)

Still one of my favorites: the Lord of the Rings trilogy!

Heath Ledger

Heath Ledger in '10 things I hate about you' and in his last film: 'The Dark Knight'.

Heath Ledger, a legend who died way too soon! He truly was an amazing actor and the best Joker ever! Heath, who only reached the age of 28 truly has a amazing list of movies behind his name. My top 3 definitely is: 'The Dark Knight', 'The Patriot' (In where Mel Gibson portrays his father) and 'Casanova'!

America‘s Next Top Model

I felt very grateful, when ANTM added guys in their show in which models compete each other for becoming the next America‘s Next Top Model.

Michael 'Mikey' Heverly. Photo: Frazer Harrison/Getty Images

My favorite contestant of the show. Mikey, who became the second best guy in ANTM cycle 22. I remember that Tyra called him a mix between (Viking) Thor & Game of Thrones Drogo. Besides his good looks, his personality also really impressed me. He showed a lot of humor but eventually he touched hearts with his emotions, with showing the man he truly is. And after I started following him on Instagram I also found out he creates jewelry with shells (Murdashells) for his customers. Shells which all have their own journey, created with love, from the heart. One beautiful message is: "When you act with your heart, you can live your dreams!"

Michael wasn't the only long haired male contestant ANTM had, but the only one I wanted to mention here.

Music stars

I‘ll address this quickly, because don‘t get me started or I won‘t stop. Again a reason why I mentioned I was born 20 years too late. The 80s and the 90s: The decades of the good music and the long haired men!

Michael Hutchence (INXS)

A beautiful man, a beautiful voice. Michael was the lead singer of the band INXS. One of their best known songs is 'Never Tear Us Apart', which you probably have heard of. I love their music! Michael Hutchence, another legend who died way too soon. Below there‘s another one.

Kurt Cobain (Nirvana)

Does this man even need an introduction? I was only 3 years old when he died. But the music of Nirvana lives on. His voice lives on. Their music meant so much for me. I still listen to it a lot. This is 'Oh me', one of my favorites:

Guns n‘ Roses

I grew up with this music. My parents just needed to turn on 'Knocking on Heavens Door' to get me quiet. But my all time favorite is 'November Rain':

I could make this pages long, but it‘s better I‘ll stop here..

Back to:

Tom & Chris

Remember when he had this long hair? I thought it really looked good on him! I think this was around the film 'Rush' in which he portrayed James Hunt from the F1. (awesome movie by the way!)

Can we count Tom‘s current hair as long? All right, we can. And with a little luck, he‘ll let it grow even longer in the future!

Bonus!

Tom Hiddleston in 'Only Lovers Left Alive' & Chris Hemsworth in
'Bad Times At The El Royale'.
